I am taking a 1 hour film music masterclass in Leicester on the 12th November at 4.30pm in the Garden Suite, De Montfort Hall. The masterclass is aimed at both musicians, film makers and those who are just interested in film music.  To book a place either email me at laura@laurarossi.com or just turn up on the day. The cost is £10 per person.  I will talk about the process of writing film music using examples from films I have scored including London to Brighton, The Cottage, Silent Shakespeare and The Battle of the Somme (which is being performed live with film at the De Montfort Hall at 7.30pm that evening by the Leicester Symphony Orchestra).

Busy organizing The Battle of the Somme tour. Will be screening the IWM newly restored film with my music played live. I am also doing pre-concert talks with Dr Toby Haggith from the Imperial War Museum. Dates so far are:

Orchestra Celeste – Under the Stars
Just got back from an amazing weekend at the Green Man Festival in Wales performing my music with a new ensemble.

We played music from our forthcoming album; a reflective soundtrack to a campfire night under the stars. Featuring compositions and improvisations by Laura Rossi and Mike Outram, with Piano, Electric Guitar, String Quartet, Tuned Percussion and Electronics, with live visuals by Mike Lowther. On this gig we replaced a viola with Sax and Flute and the Cellist also played the Saw.. hmm may have to re-score it now for the recording..

Also featuring specially commissioned music arranged by Craig Fortnam and Laura Rossi, including a live to screen performance of the episode Music from the first series of The Clangers.The performance will also feature a special arrangement of the songs and music from Bagpuss.

Just had a great couple of days on set for Paul Andrew William’s latest feature Song for Marion playing the piano for the last scene starring Terrence Stamp, Vanessa Redgrave, Gemma Arterton and Chrstopher Eccleston and a lovely choir from Newcastle.  Did some of the arrangements for the choirs which was fun and am really looking forward to writing the score..

This was a great project, I was commissioned by the Arctic Circle to do arrangements of Vernon Elliot’s music with Craig Fortnam and the North Sea Radio Orchestra so I went round to his daughter Bridget’s house who had lots of his old hand written scores and waded through them. Such wonderful music; simple, melodic and very moving. I then wrote a piece called “Variation’s on a theme by Vernon Elliot” and did a medley of The Pinguins, The Pogles and The Clangers as well as arranging one episode which we performed live with the film. The music was performed by the North Sea Radio Orchestra and conducted by Craig Fortnam.

Decided to make an album of music and set up my own ensemble to perform it. The group is to be called Orchestra Celeste and the album to be called Under the Stars. The music will be scored for Piano, Electric guitar, String quartet, Tuned Percussion and Electronics. Am also going to use live visuals when we perform live. Now to write the music and get a gig…!

Writing another album for Boosey and Hawkes Imagem label, this one is Reflective Piano. Off to feed the ducks in the park and get some inspiration.
